The Telebasel Foundation and its controversial CEO, Michael Bornhäusser, are parting ways. The operator of the Basel regional television station announced this on Tuesday.

Bornhäusser is withdrawing from all of the foundation's executive bodies, according to a Telebasel statement. His mandate as CEO will end six months earlier than originally planned.

Since June 6, Telebasel has had a new chairman of the board of trustees in the person of Niklaus Tamm. It has now become clear that there is no viable basis for further cooperation with Bornhäusser, according to the communiqué. Bornhäusser's departure is effective immediately, and he will not receive any severance pay, Tamm said at the time of the inquiry.

Bornhäusser recently caused a stir and drew criticism on Telebasel. In an interview, he attacked Ulrich Vischer, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ailing MCH Group, and barely let the former Basel cantonal councillor get a word in edgewise.

However, this talk was not the reason for the separation, Tamm said. It had, however, triggered certain developments and shown that the chemistry was not right. The Vischer interview had plunged the station into a reputation crisis that overshadowed Bornhäusser's merits.

Bornhäusser had become a member of the Telebasel Foundation Board in 2012 and was initially part of the delegation. In 2017, he was assigned the management of the broadcaster as an external consultant on a mandate basis. According to Tamms, his workload was around 40 percent. According to the communiqué, the replacement for the CEO position will be taken in hand immediately. (SDA)
