The acquisition of the Basler Zeitung cost Tamedia a lot of money. This is evident from the figures published on Tuesday.

How the Aargauer newspaper the effective price of the Basler Zeitung is said to have been 51.4 million francs last October. Added to this are liabilities amounting to CHF 24 million, resulting in a valuation of the BaZ assets of CHF 75.4 million.

The majority of BaZ's value is of an intangible nature. As Tamedia itself writes, CHF 25.7 million must be regarded as goodwill. This is based on the strong market position of the Basler Zeitung in the Basel region and the expected synergies for the Zurich media company.

According to the Aargauer Zeitung, it is unclear whether the foray into the Basel newspaper business was commercially worthwhile for previous owner Christoph Blocher. However, the CHF 50 million he ultimately received for the newspaper from Tamedia is considered "considerable". (hae)
