Tamedia cuts up to 30 jobs and separates print and digital
Tamedia is cutting up to 30 full-time positions and separating its digital and print divisions. Artificial intelligence will play a central role as a new unit called AI & Data. At the *Basler Zeitung*, Nina Jecker is taking over as editor-in-chief.

The media industry is undergoing profound structural change. Changing expectations, a declining print market and the massive shift of Swiss advertising money to global platforms are forcing media companies to make ongoing adjustments. Tamedia therefore initiated a comprehensive transformation process in August 2024 and is now taking the next step.
Strategic separation of print and digital
As of 1 March 2026, print and digital will be organizationally separated and managed in two independent business divisions: Premium Digital and Premium Print & E-Paper. The digital business is to be massively driven forward in this way. The aim is to create the most attractive paid digital offering in Switzerland and to sustainably strengthen the reach, relevance and profitability of the journalistic offerings. High-quality print products will remain a central component of the portfolio and print will be further strengthened with the modern e-paper.
The reorganization will result in a reduction of 25 to 30 full-time positions. A social plan will be implemented for the employees affected.
AI & data as a central unit
In future, Tamedia will focus even more consistently on the use of new possibilities in technical development and artificial intelligence: The relevant areas will be combined to form the AI & Data unit under the leadership of Nadia Kohler. The unit reports directly to the CEO and will make a significant contribution to the further development of products and to increasing efficiency and productivity in processes and the organization.
The new organizational structure therefore comprises the Journalism division (headed by Simon Bärtschi), the two business divisions Premium Digital (headed by Marc Isler) and Premium Print & E-Paper (headed by Jürg Mosimann) as well as Technology (headed by Marcel Holdener). The organization of the editorial offices will remain unchanged and the core brands will not be affected by the staff cuts.
Nina Jecker takes over as editor-in-chief of Basler Zeitung
There will be a change in the editorial team at Basler Zeitung: current Deputy Editor-in-Chief Nina Jecker will take over from Marcel Rohr, who led the newspaper for seven years, on February 1, 2026. Jecker brings with her many years of journalistic experience within the TX Group and impresses with her journalistic versatility, her flair for relevant topics, her eye for digital developments and her expertise in the field of artificial intelligence.
