Tagesanzeiger.ch/Newsnet launches new web series on the subject of language
Tagesanzeiger.ch/Newsnet is launching a video column on language. In «Die kleine Sprachsprechstunde» (The Little Language Consultation), culture editor Martin Ebel addresses questions of grammar and style—what’s right and wrong, what’s beautiful and what’s not—once a week.

In collaboration with Tamedia's web video team, the culture department of the Tages-Anzeiger launched the new video series. The two-minute video episodes are about "good German in a nutshell," not so much about picking up on mistakes or exposing language slip-ups, but rather about cultivating and developing language awareness. Martin Ebel picks up on typical cases of doubt, skewers swearing, bureaucratism and language clichés, and points out the manifold possibilities of the language. Starting Friday, a new episode of the column will appear weekly on Tagesanzeiger.ch, Derbund.ch and Baz.ch. In the first post the cultural editor warns against the adjective "tragic".
Martin Ebel has been head of literature in the cultural editorial department of the Tages-Anzeiger since 2002. He studied Romance and German studies and earned his doctorate with his thesis on the French writer Pierre Drieu la Rochelle. Ebel is a member of the critics' panel of the SRF "Literature Club" and has been or is a juror for literary prizes such as the German Book Prize, the Swiss Book Prize, the Leipzig Book Fair Prize and the SWR Best List Prize. He has published several books, most recently "Inspiration Schweiz" (based on a series by the Tages-Anzeiger, Limmat-Verlag 2016).
