Syndicom/Imprint: Action for unfair dismissal

On Wednesday, May 30, two trials regarding wrongful termination will take place. Radio journalist André Hügli, with the support of the Syndicom union, is suing his former employer, Radio Freiburg/Fribourg, for wrongful termination.

Imprint member Jean Godel was dismissed in February 2010 at the same time as his colleague André Hügli (Syndicom member). The two had previously been part of a four-member group delegated by the workforce to discuss the employees' criticisms and demands with management in a collective conflict over the newly planned management structure. The talks were fruitless. When the team went public with a media release, they were dismissed. Syndicom and Imprint wrote this in a statement on Tuesday. From the union's point of view, the dismissals were clearly abusive. An employee representation must be able to fulfill its functions without sanctions and it is also unequal treatment if two of a four-member delegation, which always acted as a unit and made decisions together with the team, are arbitrarily dismissed.

After several rounds of evidence gathering, the trial against the employer is now coming to a close before the Chamber of Commerce of the Saane District in Fribourg.
