Swiss Press Photo 2014: The Winners
The Swiss Media Awards for Local Journalism and the Swiss Press Photo 2014 were presented by the Reinhardt von Graffenried Foundation on Friday, April 25, at the Bern City Theater. Mark Henley was named Swiss Press Photographer of the Year for the second time.
Geneva-based Mark Henley receives the prize for his series of images of the Iran nuclear talks in Geneva. The other winners are Samuel Tanner (print), Marcel Gyr (online), Maurine Mercier (radio) and Sophie Hostettler (television). Journalist François Gross was honored with the Reinhardt von Graffenried Lifetime Achievement Award. He follows photographers René Burri (2011) and Robert Frank (2012) and journalist Arnold Hottinger (2013).

On July 29, two trains collide in Granges-près-Marnard in the canton of Vaud. The accident results in one death and 26 injuries. The train drivers are under pressure. For many, this profession was a childhood dream that is now being shattered. SBB has to convince young people to choose the profession of train driver. This job is very challenging and requires a lot of responsibility. Maurine Mercier spoke to some of the drivers in the cab who admit to sometimes falling asleep at the wheel...

About the show
TeleBärn was on the road in the Jura for a week in the run-up to the Jura vote. The five-part series was produced on a daily basis and was broadcast on the news.

The yearbook featuring the best Swiss press photos is published by Benteli Verlag and is available in bookstores. The national touring exhibition "Swiss Press Photo 14" begins on April 30 at the National Museum in Zurich before moving on to Locarno, Bern and Prangins. The iPhone app is available for free in the App Store.
Each of the six winners was presented with the diamond for their outstanding work and the sum of 20,000 Swiss francs. The Swiss Press Photo category winners each received 2,000 Swiss francs. The publisher-independent Fondation Reinhardt von Graffenried was founded by Franziska and Erwin Reinhardt-Scherz together with Charles von Graffenried - who died two years ago in July - with the aim of promoting Swiss journalism. 2014 marks the 28th year of the Swiss Prize for Local Journalism and the 23rd for Swiss Press Photo.
