Swiss Media Forum moved to ship

For security reasons, the Swiss Media Forum was moved on Friday from the KKL Luzern to a ship on Lake Lucerne. A total of 160 people were affected. According to the police, some participants were at increased risk.

Andreas Binder, chairman of the board of directors of the Forum, told the news agency sda that there had already been intensive discussions with the police behind the scenes on Thursday about the security situation. It had also been considered to cancel the event. The security authorities had recommended the postponement after analyzing the situation, a spokesman for the Lucerne police said on request. There were individual participants whose safety could be endangered. The spokesman did not want to say which persons were involved. He did not comment on details and the nature of the threat.

The list of speakers at this year's Swiss Media Forum includes Bassem Youssef. The satirist from Egypt has clashed in the past with President Mubarak, the Muslim Brotherhood and President Sisi, among others. Also taking part in the forum is Jorn Mikkelsen, editor-in-chief of the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten. The latter has published controversial Muhammad cartoons in the past. The Swiss Media Forum is taking place for the fifth time. The two-day event brings together top representatives of the Swiss media industry. Participants also include foreign media chiefs. (SDA)
