Südostschweiz Medien with increased sales and profit

Südostschweiz Medien closed the 2010 financial year with a slight increase in increased sales and with an improved profit.

The media year 2010 was characterized by major uncertainties, the company wrote in a press release on Wednesday. Nevertheless, Südostschweiz Medien reported gross revenues of 135 million, 2 percent higher than in the previous year (132 million francs). Thanks to an internal efficiency, savings and sales increase program, EBITDA improved by 12 percent to 8.3 million francs (previous year 7.4 million francs). Net profit after tax amounted to CHF 3 million (2009: CHF -0.1 million).

According to the press release, the past year was characterized by restructuring. CHF 6 million was invested in new printing presses. The digital offerings in the news area were expanded and the editorial teams were prepared for convergent forms of work in a newsroom with a comprehensive training program. Planning work for the new media building, which is to be built on the Rossboden in Chur by the end of 2013, was also driven forward.

The key figures for daily and weekly newspapers (circulation/readership), radio (listeners) and television (viewers) developed well or remained stable at a high level, according to the report. Despite adverse economic conditions, advertising income in the print and electronic media sectors developed very positively.
