Study: SRG programs more popular than private channels

The majority of the audience is fairly or even very satisfied with the programming offered by public and private broadcasters in Switzerland. This is shown by the OFCOM study on program quality conducted by the University of Zurich.

In a media comparison, radio performs better with around 70% of the audience very and fairly satisfied than television with 55%. And at 70%, significantly more people are satisfied with SRG radio programs than with private broadcasters (55%). While satisfaction with SRG radio programs has improved slightly over the last three years, satisfaction with private radio providers has deteriorated.

Almost two thirds of respondents are very or fairly satisfied with SRG television programs, while only 44% of viewers are moderately or very satisfied with the programs offered by private broadcasters. Private television is rated significantly lower than SRG programs in terms of quality and entertainment value.

The findings are based on representative samples of around 3,600 telephone interviews in 18 regions of Switzerland. The surveys were conducted last fall and spring by the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research at the University of Zurich (IPMZ).
