St. Galler Tagblatt acquires Wiler Zeitung
The St. Galler Tagblatt will take over the publishing rights to the Wiler Zeitung and the local newspaper Alttoggenburger from the Wiler Zeitung as of the beginning of 2014, according to a joint announcement by the two publishing houses. No jobs are expected to be lost as a result of the change in ownership.
Wiler Zeitung is a 100 percent subsidiary of Druckerei Flawil. The takeover of the two newspaper titles is the result of a swap deal: Druckerei Flawil is giving up its publishing rights in return for shares in the St. Galler Tagblatt, which is controlled by the NZZ Group, according to the press release. The parties have agreed not to disclose the takeover price. The deal is important for the St. Galler Tagblatt, company director Daniel Ehrat is quoted as saying in Wednesday's St. Galler Tagblatt. Synergies could be exploited and the regional editions in the Wil region could be optimized. The Wiler Zeitung is currently published with 13,500 copies as one of seven Tagblatt regional editions.
