SSF remains on the air
In April, the operators of the sports channel SSF announced that the sports channel might be shut down. Now it's clear: it will continue.
With a new financing concept and a concentration of broadcasting time on prime time, the media platform of the Swiss sports landscape will be preserved. This writes SSF in a statement on Monday. From July, SSF's programming will primarily take place in primetime between 7 pm and 9 pm. In addition, there will be two other fixed windows in the midday and nighttime program.
According to the statement, SSF continues to focus on the Swiss sports scene and also offers space for other scenes from the areas of culture, society, business and lifestyle. In addition to various live broadcasts and the continuation of existing formats such as the soccer talk show "Zwölf - die Fussballbar," the soccer magazine "Futbol Mundial" and the Formula 1 background show "Inside Grand Prix," feature films and documentaries from the world of sports will also be part of the new programming structure.
The station is also planning additional new formats starting in August: While a new reportage program will accompany and portray Swiss athletes in their everyday lives, other programs from the arts and culture will expand the "Scene" programming area. SSF will provide ongoing information about the specific content of the new formats and other innovations in the program.
Organizationally, SSF will be integrated into its former sister company Web Com TV, which in the past acted as production partner and now also employs the existing SSF staff. Newly engaged managing director and media man Jean-Claude Bruhin and SSF program director Philip Michel, now also deputy managing director of Web Com TV, are responsible for managing the station and merging the two companies.
As recently as April, SSF announced it would cease its TV broadcasting operations on June 30 (Werbewoche.ch reported). According to SSF, revenue from spots and sponsorship was lacking to an unsustainable extent.
