Restructuring / The internet service Swissinfo and Teletext have to tighten their belts. Up to eighty jobs will be cut. Concentrating on the core business is the new motto at Swissinfo and Teletext. SRG SSR idée suisse has taken measures to compensate for the cancellation of the federal contribution of CHF 15 million for Swissinfo/SRI. The Board of Directors has therefore taken the strategic decision that Swissinfo will only offer an English-language site and specific content for the Swiss abroad. This English-language service will be integrated into the SR DRS news and production system. Swiss Teletext will be regionalized. The Biel site will be closed. Regionalization" means that the editorial offices will now be linked closer to the various television studios in order to be able to work more closely and therefore more cheaply with the journalistic departments there.
A total of up to 80 jobs will be cut, mainly at Swissinfo. This will enable SRG to save a recurring CHF 16 million a year. SRG SSR idée suisse is endeavoring to find good solutions for all those affected, with job offers within the Group or good redundancy plans.
However, Teletext director Max Frei denies a report in the newspaper La Tribune in Geneva. It claimed last week that all mobile services would also be discontinued. "Of course, this business will continue to exist for SRG's cross-media activities." The Swissinfo/SRI Webfactory will also be retained as SRG SSR's multimedia competence center.
Most of the commercial activities of Swiss TXT will be taken over by Publisuisse. In future, Swiss TXT will offer 24-hour short news bulletins seven days a week. The production and broadcasting of subtitles will be retained.
