SF sports broadcasts: Ski beats football

The Lauberhorn downhill race on January 15, 2011, drew the largest audience of any sports program on Swiss television. Even soccer had to concede defeat: The most-watched game, FCB vs. Manchester United, came in only fourth place.

863,000 viewers feverishly watched Cuche and Co in front of their screens on that Sunday afternoon, as SF zwei showed the international ski heroes racing daredevilly down to the valley at the Lauberhorn. According to SRF Market and Audience Research on Thursday, the market share (MA) was 70.5 percent. The men's downhill race on the Streif in Kitzbühel a week later was also a crowd puller: With a daily reach of 671,000 people, the broadcast on SF Two reached No. 3 on the hit list of the most watched sports programs. It had a market share of 65.4 percent.

On the popularity scale, the Credit Suisse Sport Awards ceremony on the evening of December 11, 2011 on SF1 slipped into second place between the two ski runs: 718,000 watched the election of the sportswoman and sportsman of the year, which corresponded to a market share of 35.2 percent at that time of broadcast.

With 624,000 viewers, the Champions League match between FC Basel and Manchester United made it to No. 4 on the hit list (MA 35.3 percent). Tennis did not make it into the top 20 of the most popular sports programs last year: Only 421,000 watched the French Open final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on June 5 on SF zwei (MA 43.3 percent).

The "bad guys" attracted more TV viewers at the Unspunnen Schwinget in Interlaken on September 4: 438,000 (18th place, MA 43.9 percent) watched on SF zwei as Bösch Daniel forced Schuler Christian into the sawdust in the final round. (SDA)
