Swiss:in watch more and more TV via the Internet
More and more Swiss people are using the Internet to watch TV. This trend is continuing into 2023. This is the finding of the 2023 TV Streaming Report for Switzerland.

Live TV still more popular than video-on-demand
42 percent of respondents watch live TV on the Internet. This means that in 2023, after strong growth during the Corona pandemic, it remains at the previous year's level for the first time. Nevertheless, live TV is one of the most popular video offerings among Swiss Internet users. Only YouTube has more users, with 59 percent. A look at the regions shows that live TV is used even more frequently in French-speaking Switzerland (56 percent) than YouTube (52 percent). At 21%, broadcasters' media libraries are also on a par with the previous year, as is video-on-demand at 25%. With the latter, Disney+ in particular continues to grow significantly. Already 39% of video-on-demand users watch content from the US service, which is growing by a further 12 percentage points. Netflix remains in first place with 81 percent.
Impact of inflation on streaming subscriptions
Due to the uncertain economic situation, many experts previously assumed that this would have a negative impact on household media budgets. According to the TV streaming report, around one in eight Internet users (13 percent) in Switzerland have cancelled a streaming subscription so far due to the economic situation. The report also shows that with a view to inflation, 11 percent have switched to cheaper streaming offers and a further 6 percent to free offers.
The TV Streaming Report 2023 is based on a survey that has been conducted annually by Kantar on behalf of Zattoo since 2015. This year, 810 Swiss internet users between the ages of 16 and 69 were surveyed.
