Swiss television as live stream from mid-December

Starting in mid-December, Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) will also broadcast all of its television channels as live streams on its own website. Until now, SRF had simply redirected online viewers to the Zattoo and Wilmaa streaming services.

Until now, only individual shows were available on the SF website, but not the currently running program. As SRF's customer service announced on Twitter on Friday, the entire program is now also streamed live. The radio stations have already been receivable via the Internet for years.

The broadcasting of TV stations via the Internet is likely to have an impact on audience ratings. From January 1, 2013, programs viewed on the computer will also be measured - a paradigm shift for the Mediapulse Foundation, which is responsible for the measurement.

The new method is intended to take account of the significant changes in viewing habits. The new measurement is made possible with a new technology that compares the sound broadcast by the station with that received by the viewer. (SDA)
