Swiss payment apps: Three quarters run on iPhones

Most users of finance apps in Switzerland own an Apple smartphone. This is according to research by the Handelszeitung.

In the case of the Paymit payment app, Apple accounts for a good three-quarters of all installations. UBS told the newspaper that Apple accounts for 75 percent of all installations, while the Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB) even puts the figure at 77 percent. A representative of the ZKB explained the high proportion by saying that Apple customers have a much greater affinity for payment apps than owners of phones with the Google Android system.

According to current figures from the Y&R Group, around 42 percent of all cell phones in Switzerland currently run Apple's iOS operating system. 48 percent have Android, and the remaining 10 percent have niche systems such as Windows or Blackberry OS. Other financial apps also show shares that are significantly higher than Apple's Swiss smartphone market share. Twint has an iPhone share of two-thirds, Postfinance 71 percent and the mobile app of Migros Bank 60 percent Apple share.
