Weak revenue growth for RTL Group
Due to a weak advertising market in Germany, RTL Group barely increased its revenues in the first quarter. Revenues rose by only 0.8 percent to 1.255 billion euros, Europe's leading entertainment group announced on Monday.
At 181 million euros, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization were even almost twelve percent lower than a year ago. "This decline is based on lower advertising revenues and higher program costs," the statement said. Customers had postponed campaigns to the second quarter due to the late Easter holidays.
Advertising revenues in the Netherlands and France, on the other hand, increased significantly compared to the same period last year. More than 90 percent of RTL Group is a subsidiary of Bertelsmann. In Germany, the chain includes RTL, RTL 2, Super RTL, N-TV and Vox. (SDA)
