Closure of the Baz printing plant definite
The closure of the Basler Zeitung's printing plant is now final: The board of directors made this decision following the conclusion of the consultation process, as the company announced on Monday. 72 employees will be laid off.
During the consultation process, no feasible proposals for the loss-free continuation of Zeitungsdrucker Schweiz were submitted, the statement said. The Board of Directors has therefore decided on the definitive closure of the Basler Zeitung Medien Group's printing plant as of March 31.
Affected are 96 employees of the printing plant as well as the staff restaurant at Hochbergerstrasse in Basel, which will also be closed. Eleven employees will be offered early retirement, while ten employees will be offered a job at the Tamedia printing center in Zurich, where the Basler Zeitung will be printed in the future. Three apprentices who will complete their apprenticeship in 2013 will also be taken on by the Tamedia printing center, the statement added. However, 72 employees will lose their jobs. A social plan is available to those affected, according to the statement (Werbewoche.ch reported). (SDA)
