Following today's General Assembly of the Schaffhausen Press Association, the Board of Directors, led by President Mark Liebenberg (editor of "Schaffhauser Nachrichten"), presented the media awards for 2025. A surprise guest attracted particular attention: former Federal Councillor Adolf Ogi traveled from Kandersteg especially to pay tribute to honorary award winner Peter Schuppli.

Award for Tele D founder

The Schaffhausen Press Association's Honorary Award 2025 goes to Peter Schuppli, founder and driving force behind local television in Diessenhofen (now Tele D). For over four decades, he has stood for persistent, independent and voluntary media work in the region - from the first carnival broadcast to the established local television station with appeal far beyond the region.

"We honor the perseverance and the admirable ambition to assert itself as an independent private broadcaster over decades," said the jury report.

Former "Tages-Anzeiger" editor-in-chief and Schaffhausen journalist Peter Hartmeier gave the laudatory speech. He emphasized: "A medium must always and constantly renew itself, change, question itself critically, say goodbye to comfortable habits, because media use is changing. At the same time, a medium needs personalities who stand for character, style and reliability. Tele D has these criteria thanks to you, Peter. You are the director of a stage that can be used by young and old with a wide variety of topics."

As a surprise guest, former Federal Councillor Adolf Ogi also recalled a number of experiences with Tele D. Ogi was the first Federal Councillor to be a guest in the Tele D studio in 1991.

Award for reflective radio work

The Schaffhausen Press Association's Sponsorship Award 2025 goes to radio journalist Jennifer Gyseler. The jury selected her audio work "La Línea Borrosa - Zwischen Engagement und Distanz", which is also her diploma thesis at the MAZ, from 26 submissions.

In "La Linea Borrosa" (the blurred line), the young journalist questions her commitment to a Christmas Radio Munot fundraising campaign for an aid organization in Cuba and her dual role as the face of the campaign and reporter in one. The jury particularly emphasizes the reflected examination of closeness and distance, journalistic neutrality and everyday role conflicts in everyday editorial work and acknowledges the work as a valuable contribution to the self-image and quality of journalistic work in the region.

The Schaffhausen Press Association has been committed to preserving the dignity and independence of the press since 1912 and supports young journalists in particular. Every year, the association recognizes outstanding achievements in regional journalism with the honorary prize and the sponsorship prize. The board includes active media professionals from several editorial offices (Schaffhauser Nachrichten, Schaffhauser AZ, Radio Munot, SRF Regionaljournal).
