RTL benefits from rising advertising market

RTL, Europe's largest entertainment group, benefited from the growing advertising market in 2010. Revenue rose by 8.5 percent year-over-year to 5.6 billion euros, the Luxembourg-based RTL Group announced on Tuesday.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITA) exceeded the billion euro mark for the first time. The Ebita amounted to around 1.1 billion euros, it was reported. The Bertelsmann subsidiary plans to publish further key figures on March 10. All Western European television advertising markets grew strongly, a spokesperson reported. In the previous year, which was burdened by the advertising crisis, Ebita amounted to just under 800 million.

RTL Group owns 40 television channels and 32 radio stations in ten countries. In Germany, the chain includes RTL, Vox, RTL 2, N-tv and Super RTL. More than 90 percent of the Group is owned by the German media group Bertelsmann.
