RTL Group: Profit tripled

The unexpectedly strong upturn in the Western European television markets gave RTL Group a profit boost in 2010.

Compared to the previous year, profit after minority interests almost tripled to 611 million euros in 2010, Europe's largest television group announced on Thursday, according to SDA. Turnover increased by eight percent to 5.6 billion euros. The upturn in the Western European TV advertising markets was stronger than expected, the media company explained the result. The chain's television channels, including RTL, RTL2, Super RTL, N-tv and Vox, had emerged stronger from the crisis.

The dividend is to be raised to 5 euros per share - in 2009 it was still 3.50 euros. This would mean that more than 700 million euros would flow into the coffers of the main owner Bertelsmann. Bertelsmann holds around 91 percent of RTL Group.
