Ringier Publishing Apologizes to Carl Hirschmann
The lawsuit filed by Carl Hirschmann, a Zurich-based millionaire heir and former club owner, against Ringier Publishing for invasion of privacy has been settled. Ringier acknowledges that some of the allegations published in the Blick Group’s publications were inaccurate.
The accusations were based on allegations by anonymous informants or consisted of passing on mere rumors, writes Blick editor-in-chief Ralph Grosse-Bley in an apology from the publishing house, which will be published on the front pages of Blick, Sonntagsblick and Blick am Abend as well as on the online portals.
The reason for the numerous articles was Hirschmann's temporary arrest in 2009 on charges including sexual assault. The intensity of the reporting in the Blick media violated the personal rights of Carl Hirschmann, writes Grosse-Bley.
Ringier undertakes to delete all publications on Carl Hirschmann's legal proceedings since 2009 from its online archives and media databases, Hirschmann's lawyer wrote in a statement on Sunday. A personal-injury lawsuit against another media company is still pending, he added. (sda)
