Ringier generates profit of 32.3 million Swiss francs
In 2012, Ringier increased its EBITA by 55.2 percent to 99.5 million Swiss francs. Net income was 32.3 million Swiss francs, and group-wide revenue was 1,087.6 million Swiss francs.
18 percent of this was generated digitally. This is according to a press release issued by the media group on Wednesday. The main source of revenue remained the traditional publishing business. Positive effects from acquisitions, the pleasing magazine business in Switzerland, the consistent expansion of entertainment, as well as the sustainable implementation of cost measures in all areas and countries enabled the good annual result, it continues.
Ringier CEO Marc Walder is satisfied with the 2012 financial year. It was a groundbreaking year, a year of acquisitions and reorganization, he told the media in Zurich on Wednesday, according to SDA. "Our three-pillar strategy is taking hold, and Ringier's development into a diversified media company with extended value chains continued at a fast pace last year. It was a year of groundbreaking decisions and major acquisitions," Walder continued. From this strong position, the digitization of the business will continue to be driven forward. The plan is to accelerate innovations, increase the value of the capital employed and actively shape the structural change in the media industry.
With the reorganization carried out in spring 2012, Ringier laid the foundation for the equally efficient and effective further development of the company, the statement continues. The management structure was streamlined, and the corporate organization was no longer organized geographically, but strategically according to the Publishing, Entertainment and Digital units (Werbewoche.ch reported). The acquisitions of Onet.pl and Jobs.ch are two milestones in digital development, Ringier said. As a result, digital revenues at Group level are expected to rise to a new level of around 25 percent in 2013. The acquisition of the largest Romanian online job portal EJobs.ro had rounded off the year of major acquisitions.
Over the last five years, a total of more than 1.1 billion has been invested in Ringier's transformation.

Ringier wraps annual report in wrapping paper
Readers are presented with the 2012 Annual Report in splendid colors and meticulously folded: Algerian-born multi-artist Philippe Parreno has wrapped Ringier's facts and figures from the past year in 59-color wrapping paper.
It is not the content that the artist has designed, but the packaging. Tear it open and dispose of it quickly or carefully unveil it and keep it is the question Philippe Parreno asks recipients, Ringier says. Short-lived or sustainable, each individual must decide for himself.
Philippe Parreno makes films, sculptures, drawings, objects, photographs, puppets, installations, he writes texts, evokes stories, he thinks, develops robots, initiates games, situations, works of other artists, he develops exhibitions and exhibition formats and much more. Born in Oran, Algeria in 1964, he studied various art movements in France and lives in Paris. His works have been seen at major exhibitions around the world.
This year, the annual report appears in the form of Ringier's corporate magazine Domo. In addition to facts and figures and explanations from the various areas, the report is illustrated with photographs, all of which have appeared in one of the newspapers and magazines from the Ringier portfolio. The Ringier Annual Report is available in German, English and French. It can be downloaded or ordered via the Ringier corporate website Ringier.com.
