Ringier Africa takes over classifieds portal
Ringier Africa is further expanding its locations by acquiring a majority stake in Zoomtanzania.com, Tanzania's leading classifieds portal. Ringier is now active in five African countries.
Zoomtanzania.com was founded in 2009 and employs ten people in Dar-es-Salaam. The number three of the most visited online platforms in Tanzania has three million page views per month and was acquired by Ringier with a 51 percent stake.
Kirk Gillis, Founder and Managing Director Zoomtanzania.com: "It's great to be part of Ringier. Of all the potential partners, Ringier impressed us in all areas. We are looking forward to this collaboration. Thanks to our experience in the local classified market and Ringier's technology and operational excellence, we will be able to expand our market leadership."
According to the press release, this expansion is in line with Ringier's strategy of building a portfolio of market-leading classified platforms. Ringier already acquired a majority stake in Expat-Dakar, Senegal's largest classified marketplace, at the beginning of the year. Robin Lingg, CEO Ringier Africa & Asia: "Tanzania is one of the fastest growing markets in East Africa. We look forward to working with the great team at ZoomTanzania.com to extend our market leadership in a region of 46 million people."
Ringier is thus active in the five African countries of Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Tanzania. With ZoomTanzania, six of Ringier's nine platforms in Africa are now market leaders. With Rupu, the largest online store in East Africa was successfully established in Kenya. The same applies to Tisu in Ghana, where the platform is also the market leader. In Nigeria, the entertainment news platform Pulse expanded its market leadership with 4 million page views per month. Allsports in Ghana is now also the number one sports portal with 2.5 million monthly page views.
