Republic dismisses harassing journalist with immediate effect
The online magazine Republik has decided to immediately dismiss a journalist suspected of harassment. Several women have accused him of inappropriate behavior. The journalist had already been suspended since the end of August.
Between September 14 and 28, the Republic a platform was set up on which other possible victims could report. Apparently, even more tips about transgressive behavior and harassment were received.
After an initial evaluation of these reports, the editorial team came to the conclusion to part with this employee immediately. There was no alternative, writes the Republic. Therefore, there was no confrontation with the journalist.
Workshop against harassment
The online magazine further announced that it would learn the necessary lessons from the incidents and reform its operating culture. Information on further measures will be provided in the coming weeks. An internal workshop entitled "Training to protect against bullying and harassment" has already been held.
The trigger for the dismissal of the well-known journalist was a Research by Radio SRFin which six women made accusations of sexual harassment. The journalist is said to have sent them explicit messages, and in one case there was allegedly a sexual assault. The journalist firmly rejects this accusation. (SDA)
