Real21 supports eight journalistic reports on globally relevant topics
In spring 2025, the Real21 association is supporting eight reports that deal with important global issues - including migration on the US border, yoga in Ukraine and the everyday life of a Swiss surgeon in Afghanistan.
Real21 is dedicated to promoting in-depth foreign reporting. These funding contributions are intended to enable "quieter but no less important stories" from around the world to be told and heard.
In spring 2025, the association will award a total of around CHF 23,000 to eight journalistic projects. The reports will be published in various Swiss media, including Annabelle, The lamb, NZZ on Sunday, Bref - Reformed media and WoZ.
All sponsored reports are carried out by female journalists. Their research takes them to Sudan, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Tanzania, the Dominican Republic, Greece, Albania, Mexico and the Philippines, among other places.
The financial support from Real21 covers the travel and research costs and thus ensures the publication of the reports. In this way, the association aims to contribute to an in-depth and differentiated examination of global issues. The next round of applications for funding will start in fall 2025, with a deadline for applications of September 30.
The Real21 2025 jury consists of David Signer (NZZ correspondent), Monika Bolliger (producer at Radio SRF), Karin Wenger (freelance journalist), Martina Fehr (CEO Maz) and Marco Fähndrich (Head of Communications at Alliance Sud).
