Audience Council: Criticism of SRF1 afternoon programming

The afternoon program on Radio SRF 1, which airs from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., has received mixed reviews from the Public Council. Listeners feel that there is a lack of journalistic content; Radio SRF 1’s afternoon programming is slowly shifting from a listener-focused station to a background medium.

Since mid-2012, Radio SRF 1 has continuously revised its programming. The afternoon program between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. has also undergone some changes and received new headings and greater listener participation. The audience council judges the afternoon on Radio SRF 1 as diverse and unexciting, according to a statement on Monday. Programs such as the radio play on Mondays or the "Visite" on Fridays are well received. Many council members also don't want to miss the "Hörbühne". According to a majority of council members, "Vergissi nümm" always offers surprises. For others, however, it talks too little about the music. Herzblut," the second regular column, also met with approval. Short, topical articles, such as on the planned ban on plastic bags or contributions on cultural events, are also appreciated.

However, some council members find the afternoon arbitrary and thin on content. They miss journalistically structured contributions or the earlier monothematic broadcasts. The numerous telephone voices of radio listeners do not convince the audience council in terms of quality and content. In the afternoon, Radio SRF 1 is moving away from being a radio station for listeners and towards being an accompanying medium. Overall, the audience council feels that the afternoon is a "construction site" that should still be worked on.

Wide range of music

For some council members, the afternoon's music offerings are very broad. The frequent change of music styles lends the broadcast flow a certain bumpiness. The moderation is praised as relaxed and friendly. It was well prepared and close to the listeners. Their unagitated manner, which is a great quality of the station, is also liked.
