Publica Data: Radio consumption down slightly

On an average day in the first half of 2011, 89% of the population aged 15 and over in German-speaking Switzerland listened to the radio. They did this for an average of 127.4 minutes.

Radio consumption in German-speaking Switzerland therefore fell by 0.1 percent or 4.1 minutes compared to the second half of 2010. According to SDA, this is the result of figures published by Publica Data AG on Wednesday. SRG radio stations had a market share of 66.2 percent in the first half of 2011, 0.3 percent more than in the second half of 2010, while private radio stations lost slightly from 29.3 to 29.1 percent. The foreign stations were also tuned in slightly less; their market share fell from 4.8% to 4.7%.

DRS 1 claimed the largest market share with 34.3 (33.9) percent. DRS 2 achieved 3.6 (3.9) percent, DRS 3 17.8 (17.9) percent, DRS 4 0.7 (0.8) percent and DRS Musikwelle 4.7 (4.8) percent. Among private radio stations, Radio 24 maintained its leading position with a market share of 3.2% (3.1%), ahead of Radio Argovia with 2.3% (2.4%), Energy Zürich with 2.1% (2.2%), FM1 with 2.0% (1.8%) and Radio Zürisee with 1.9% (2.0%).

Eviva is the most listened to private cable radio station with a market share of 1.1 (1.0) percent.

In the other language regions, radio consumption was slightly lower. 86.2% of people in French-speaking Switzerland listened to the radio for 114.3 minutes a day. In Italian-speaking Switzerland, the medium of radio reached 88.4% of the population aged 15 and over, and usage amounted to 117.2 minutes per day. In the second half of 2010, this figure was 86.4% or 118.2 minutes in French-speaking Switzerland and 88.0% or 122.7 minutes in Italian-speaking Switzerland.
