Press Council shortens complaint period
The Press Council shortens the period for filing a complaint from six to three months. The period begins with the publication of the media report complained of. This amendment to the Rules of Procedure has been in force since January 1, 2017.
In agreement with the Board of Trustees, the Press Council Executive Committee has also decided to communicate, starting in 2017, which media have failed to report reprimands issued by the Press Council that affect them themselves. It is consistent with fair reporting to publish at least a brief summary of these opinions. This moral duty is laid down in the "Declaration of the Duties and Rights of Journalists." The Press Council regrets that some editorial offices again withheld these decisions from their readers last year. It is also desirable that the editorial offices also report on opinions of the Press Council that are in their favor.
