Press Council partially approves complaint against Le Matin

Le Matin went too far in an article on assisted suicide in May 2011, according to the Press Council. A complaint by the "Stop Suicide" association was partially upheld.

The reason for the complaint against the newspaper in French-speaking Switzerland was the article "La mort pour 60 dollars". It reported on a case in the USA in which a man had used a so-called suicide kit to euthanize himself. Le Matin described in detail the method by which the man killed himself.

The Press Council concluded that Le Matin had not limited itself to reporting only the facts of the suicide, but that the newspaper had described the entire process with all the events leading up to the man's death.
