Swiss Post puts together 50 million savings package

Swiss Post plans to save about 50 million francs over the next few years. Customers shouldn't notice any difference: The cuts will primarily target management and central staff functions.

Savings will be made in communications, finance, the legal department and human resources, said Swiss Post spokesman Oliver Flüeler in response to a report in the Berner Zeitung newspaper on Tuesday. He did not want to disclose details because the measures were internal. However, Flüeler did confirm the closure of the internal library at Swiss Post headquarters in Bern. This comprises around 15'000 media and over 100 journals on business administration, IT, logistics and other relevant specialist areas.

The closure of the library alone will save 600'000 francs per year. The aim of the savings package is to save around 50 million francs over the next 3 to 4 years by exploiting synergies or dispensing with tasks, Flüeler said. (sda)
