OGG manages Schweizer Bauer independently again
The Ökonomische und Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft des Kantons Bern (OGG) is taking over Espace Media's 49% stake in Schweizer Bauer. This means that the OGG will manage the agricultural newspaper independently again in future.
OGG founded the Schweizer Bauer newspaper in 1846 and sold a minority stake to Espace Media in 1991. The complete takeover by OGG ensures the editorial and economic independence of Schweizer Bauer, as detailed in a press release. The sale has no direct consequences for the 27 employees; the editorial and publishing offices of Schweizer Bauer will remain at their current location in Bern. The financially successful Schweizer Landwirtschaftszeitung is published twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday with a paid circulation of 31,290 copies. According to WEMF circulation statistics, this makes Schweizer Bauer the leading agricultural newspaper in Switzerland.
In 2011, Espace Media decided to part with Schweizer Bauer for strategic reasons. However, a sale of Switzerland's largest agricultural newspaper to media entrepreneur Dominique Hiltbrunner, which was agreed in February 2012, did not materialize.
