NZZ: New website and webpaper launched

The «Neue Zürcher Zeitung»’s new website has gone live at Beta.nzz.ch. At the same time, the web edition was launched, which, in addition to the e-paper, displays the newspapers on all platforms.

The "Beta version" will be available for a few weeks in order to test it for any "teething problems". As soon as these have been rectified, there will be a complete switchover to the new version. Until then, NZZ Online will be available in its usual form at Nzz.ch. The data will be synchronized from the same editorial system and almost in real time, according to an NZZ press release. A teaser on NZZ Online refers to the new site. The constantly updated website contains even more information on business, politics, culture, science and sport, as well as analyses, opinions and correspondent reports, the NZZ press release continues. In the coming weeks, all visitors will be able to read all articles on Nzz.ch free of charge. In the course of the fall, intensive users will have to pay for access.

From e-paper to webpaper
At the same time, the new webpaper was launched, which complements the traditional e-paper offering. The NZZ e-paper, the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" and the "NZZ am Sonntag" as a digital facsimile, has been available for almost ten years at epaper.nzz.ch. Despite its success, the PDF format was perceived as too static, especially by online-savvy readers.

The new webpaper now also meets the needs of these readers. It contains the complete daily newspapers every day, but now not in the original layout, but presented like a website. This means that the newspapers are now available on all smartphones and platforms. Like the e-paper, the webpaper is accessible to all subscribers.
