NZZ: Joy over 10,000 digital subscribers
At the end of July 2012, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the NZZ am Sonntag surpassed the 10,000-mark for digital subscriptions. This puts them among the leaders in the German-speaking world.
The development of the e-paper, especially since the introduction of the iPad app in October 2010 and the webpaper launched at the end of May, continues to be very pleasing, according to a statement. At the end of July, Neue Zürcher Zeitung and NZZ am Sonntag registered more than 10,000 digital-only subscriptions for the first time.
With this number of digital subscriptions, NZZ is the leader in Switzerland in absolute terms, the statement continues. In German-speaking countries, too, it is on a par with the most successful comparable offerings of media companies, despite the smaller market.
"These figures contradict the widespread opinion that there is no willingness to pay for purely digital content," explains Peter Hogenkamp, Head of Digital Media at NZZ Media Group. "NZZ is therefore correspondingly confident about the further expansion stages, especially the introduction of the paywall in the fall, when access for e-paper, webpaper and full access to NZZ.ch will be combined into one subscription."
