New UBI Vice President
The Independent Complaints Authority for Radio and Television (UBI) has a new vice president. Carine Egger Scholl, from Bern, was elected to the position.
In her main job, the 50-year-old lawyer is chairwoman of the Bern-Mittelland arbitration authority. She previously worked as a lawyer and before that she was the central secretary of the journalistic professional association Impressum. She has been a member of the UBI since 2004. This was announced by the UBI in a press release on Friday.
Carine Egger succeeds Regula Bähler, who stepped down from the UBI at the end of 2012. Bähler, a lawyer and former television and print journalist, had held the position for nine years. She also headed the authority for a longer period due to the illness and death of the then UBI President Denis Barrelet.
The UBI is an independent supervisory authority that deals with complaints against radio and television broadcasts and is chaired by Roger Blum. Its members work on a part-time basis.
