Murdoch confidant released on bail

Rebekah Brooks, a close associate of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, was released on bail Monday morning. British police said she had previously been questioned in connection with the phone-hacking scandal.

The former editor-in-chief of the discontinued tabloid News of the World will have to reappear at a London police station at the end of October. The 43-year-old Brooks is considered a close confidante of Murdoch.

The wiretapping and bribery scandal surrounding media tsar Murdoch has been rocking the UK for days. Before the affair, Brooks had distinguished herself above all through her excellent contacts in politics. London's police chief, Paul Stephenson, also resigned from his post as a result of the escalating scandal. (SDA)
