MMV Online to launch next summer

With MMV Online, a new media project is being launched for Central Switzerland. From next summer, an online newspaper will provide more diversity of opinion in the Lucerne and Zug regions.

The Portal is based on the model of an online newspaper and aims to offer visitors critical, non-partisan journalism, according to a press release issued on Monday. The news offering will be supplemented by a regional service offering. As yet unnamed projects are to be produced by three to four editors and freelancers. According to the press release, MMV Online sees itself as a high-profile addition to daily local newspapers. "We are convinced that open-minded people in Central Switzerland want more up-to-date information than the existing offering. This is especially true for the regional sector", Christian Hug is certain. The 43-year-old from Zug has been Managing Director since the beginning of the year and can look back on a wealth of experience as an editor and head of electronic media.

Chairman of the Board of Directors Nick Mijnssen is convinced that the regional news portal meets a broad need. "In Zug, but especially in Lucerne, I have long heard how much differentiated regional reporting is missing. One that also takes a critical view and examines issues from different perspectives." As an independent medium, Mijnssen believes that we have the best prerequisites for this.

The project was initiated almost two years ago to break up the regional information monopoly of LZ Medien. In the meantime, the preparatory work with the help of a consultancy firm has progressed to the point where a wide range of specialists can be involved. There is also an intensive exchange with other Swiss media projects. In addition to a public limited company, which is responsible for operations, the M.M.V. (Meinungen.Medien.Vielfalt.) association forms the supporting body. Former National Councillor Judith Stamm (CVP), Zug entrepreneur Nick Mijnssen and Ballwil trustee Beat Bachmann sit on the founding board.

The name of the portal at launch is still open. The public will be able to submit suggestions and vote for the name via Facebook. The aim is to be ready next summer. An editorial manager and advertisement sellers are currently still being sought.
