More revenues for RTL in the first nine months

The RTL television group posted significantly higher revenue in the first nine months. However, the outlook is clouding over.

RTLFrom July to September, RTL increased its consolidated revenues by almost a fifth year-on-year to 1.7 billion euros, as the Group announced on Friday. For the first nine months, this represents an increase of twelve percent to 5 billion euros.

The company benefited significantly from its global content business with Fremantle, which generated almost 28 percent more revenue. Advertising revenues remained almost stable.

In the first nine months, RTL Group gained significantly more paying subscribers for its streaming platforms RTL+ in Germany and Videoland in the Netherlands. At just under 4.8 million paying customers, the figure was around 40 percent higher than a year earlier.

However, due to delayed deliveries of productions and content, RTL expects revenues in the current year to be lower than announced. Revenues are expected to rise to 7.2 billion euros. Group CEO Thomas Rabe had already previously adjusted the annual targets. The revenue target for this year had previously been around 7.3 to 7.5 billion euros.

"Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, we expect the difficult environment in the advertising markets, especially in Germany, to continue," Rabe said. (SDA)
