TeleZüri applies for regional TV license with fee money

TeleZüri applies to Bakom for the regional TV license for the cantons of Zurich, Thurgau and Schaffhausen. The TV station Tele Top, which belongs to the CH Media Group, is thus attacking the previous holder of the license. More than three million Swiss francs per year are at stake.

With the license applied for, TeleZüri wants to strengthen and expand its programming, as the broadcaster announced on Monday. TeleZüri has not received any fee money to date.

If TeleZüri is awarded the license, reporting from the cantons of Thurgau and Schaffhausen in particular is to be expanded. To this end, two correspondents each are to be hired.

Four broadcasters want the concession

The previous owner Tele Top and two other broadcasters are also competing for the license for the Zurich-Northeast Switzerland coverage area. The license includes a performance mandate and a share of the fees amounting to just under CHF 3.3 million per year. The other applicants are Auftanken.TV and Tele Z.

TeleZüri's application, however, is only to be considered if one of the stations Tele M1 or TeleBärn, which also belong to the CH-Media Group, does not receive the license in its area. The applications have been prioritized accordingly. The reason for this is that a single media company may not have more than two TV licenses.

In order to decide who will receive the license in the Zurich-Northeastern Switzerland coverage area, Bakom intends to hold hearings with the cantons, among others. The new licenses will be valid from 2025 for a period of 10 years. (SDA)
