National Council demands refund of Billag value-added tax
The National Council is demanding that the value-added tax wrongfully levied on radio and television reception fees be refunded, retroactive to five years.

It adopted a motion by Sylvia Flückiger (SVP/AG) on Thursday by 147 votes to 23 with 13 abstentions. In April 2015, the Federal Supreme Court ruled that the fees are not subject to VAT. Since then, VAT has no longer been levied on Billag fees.
This year, the Federal Administrative Court ruled in two judgments that taxes that were previously levied incorrectly must be refunded. However, each fee payer must claim the money individually. With her motion, Flückiger is demanding that the approximately CHF 30 million that has been wrongly collected since 2011 be automatically refunded. The motion will now go to the Council of States. The National Council's Telecommunications Committee has submitted a motion with the same request. (SDA)
