Competition for TeleBärn, Telebielingue and Radio BeO
The established local stations in the canton of Bern are facing competition. In Bern, Telebärn's license will be contested from 2025, in Biel Telebielingue and in the Oberland Radio BeO.
This is shown in the list of license applications published by Bakom on Monday. It had already become known at the beginning of May that Telebasel and the publisher of the free newspaper Bernerbär wanted to operate a station called BärnTV in the Bern area in the future. (Werbewoche.ch reported).
TeleBärn has been the top dog here for 30 years. The TV station wants to stay that way, as it announced on Monday. It is anchored in the Bernese population and has again submitted a license application. From 2025, it wants to convince with further innovative formats and even more public service for the Bern region.
Telebielingue also has to fight for a new license. As became known at the end of May, Canal Alpha wants to launch the local TV station Canal B in the Biel region. In the area of the Jura Arc, Canal Alpha already operates a TV station and would like to renew the concession.
The new Canal B is to produce bilingual programming and, if possible, broadcast on two different channels. A studio and an editorial office with around 20 journalists are to be set up in Biel.
Radio Blüemlisalp challenges BeO
Radio BeO has been on the air in the Bernese Oberland since 1987. Weber Verlag, which plans to operate Radio Blüemlisalp from 2025, is now also applying for a license for the region.
With over 30 years of experience in the publishing industry and a solid financial basis, the publishing house is in a position to set up a new radio station for the entire Bernese Oberland, the company told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Monday. "More culture - more Oberland" is the guiding idea.
To this end, the publishing house wants to use its network of around 80 authors, publicists and artists from the region. Furthermore, Radio Blüemlisalp will network with organizations, communities, important partners and service providers from the entire Oberland and maintain a regular exchange.
The program should reflect the diversity of the region and the lifeworlds of the people. The content and presentation of the programs are to be "innovative, interactive and relevant. A café studio with live broadcasts is to be built at the Thun/Gwatt broadcasting location. (SDA/swi)
