Imprint demands more pay for employees from 150 media outlets

The professional association Imprint has sent a letter to 150 media companies in Switzerland demanding more pay for journalists in 2023. In a statement on Thursday, it demanded at least a cost-of-living adjustment of 3 to 3.5 percent.

Not granting the cost-of-living adjustment would effectively amount to a pay cut for those affected, the trade association wrote in the statement. However, it is aware that some media companies are in a difficult financial situation, which must be taken into account. The time for wage adjustments had come after the rise in inflation in Switzerland since the fall of 2021.

The Swiss Federation of Trade Unions SGB had called for wage increases of 4 to 5 percent. In addition to compensating for inflation of 3 to 3.5 percent, the demand also includes the increase in labor productivity and the need to catch up due to "insufficient" wage developments in recent years.

Imprint asked media companies to communicate to the association by the end of November in what form they would take account of the current economic situation. Imprint is the largest professional association of media professionals in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Around 4,000 writing, photographing, filming, caricaturing or moderating journalists are members. (SDA)
