L'illustré: For the 90th anniversary the most important Romands of the century chosen

To mark its 90th anniversary, the French-Swiss magazine L'illustré is honoring 90 prominent figures from French-speaking Switzerland who have shaped the last century. Among them are politicians, scientists, writers, and athletes.

The selection was made by a jury of three external journalists, according to the special edition published on Wednesday. The people selected are proof that an identité romande exists, writes editor-in-chief Michel Jeanneret in the foreword.

The book portrays 72 men and 18 women who have passed away or are still alive. They include the architect Le Corbusier, the entrepreneur Nicolas Hayek, the physicist Auguste Piccard, the director Jean-Luc Godard and the former footballer Stéphane Chapuisat.

Readers are invited to vote for ten of the selected personalities. The most popular names will be presented on December 3 in a program on TSR television in French-speaking Switzerland. (SDA)
