Liechtensteiner Volksblatt is discontinued

It had already been on the horizon, and now it's official: Liechtenstein is losing its oldest daily newspaper, the Liechtensteiner Volksblatt.

It had already become apparent (advertisingweek.ch reported), it is now certain: Liechtenstein is losing its oldest daily newspaper. The newspaper, which has been published since 1878 Liechtensteiner Volksblatt is discontinued for lack of economic prospects. The decision plows up the media landscape of the Principality and has repercussions in politics.

The discontinuation was unanimously approved by the publishing house's General Meeting on Tuesday, according to Liechtensteiner Volksblatt AG. The General Assembly thus followed a proposal of the Board of Directors. Thirty employees are without employment.

The Volksblatt struggled with the outflow of advertising money to large Internet companies and with steadily declining print subscriptions. Most recently, the normal circulation was still 3800 copies.

The newspaper was close to the Progressive Civic Party. With the discontinuation, the statist party loses its media mouthpiece. (sda)
