Le Courrier remains in the red
The Geneva-based French-speaking Swiss daily newspaper Le Courrier remains in the red in 2012. It had set itself the goal of selling 500 new subscriptions and thus finally making a profit.
The offensive launched two months ago did not bear fruit as hoped. Only 183 new subscriptions and 102 trial subscriptions were taken out, as the newspaper reported in its Saturday edition. Thanks to the campaign, it was at least possible to halt the loss of subscriptions that had been ongoing since January. At the end of October, the newspaper had 8950 subscriptions (paper, online) - 200 fewer than in January.
The newspaper is read by around 25,000 people and has a circulation of 8,000 copies. It is financed solely by subscriptions, donations and advertisements. It deliberately refrains from well-paid advertising in order to guarantee its independence. (SDA)
