Hacker attack on Murdoch newspaper The Sun
On Monday, the hacker group Lulz Security hacked the website of the British tabloid The Sun and published a hoax story reporting the alleged death of media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
The newspaper deleted the entry stating that the 80-year-old had been found dead in his garden shortly after publication on Monday evening. The Sun, like the now defunct scandal sheet News of the World, belongs to the British Murdoch spin-off News International.
Visitors to the website were redirected to the Lulz Security page on the short messaging service Twitter, where the hackers claimed responsibility for the attack and announced further actions. "This story is just phase one," one message said. A spokeswoman for News International said the British newspaper group was aware of the online attack.
In recent weeks, Lulz Security claimed to have attacked the websites of companies such as Sony and Nintendo, as well as the US Senate and the US intelligence agency CIA. The group originally announced the end of its activities at the end of June. (SDA)
