Doodle: More than 22 million users per month

Doodle.com, the website for planning and surveys, now has more than 22 million users per month. This is a third more than in 2013, said Doodle boss Michael Brecht in an interview with the French-speaking Swiss newspaper Le Temps.

"We are highly profitable, in the double-digit range, with annual sales of several million francs," explained Brecht, who has headed the Zurich-based company since February, in the interview published on Tuesday. However, he did not want to estimate the current value of Doodle. His goal is to achieve annual sales growth of over 30 percent "as independently as possible". This means under the supervision of, but without interference from Tamedia. The publisher announced in January that it intended to acquire a majority stake in Doodle during the course of the year. Tamedia has already held a 49 percent stake in Doodle since 2011. According to Brecht, the purchase could be finalized by the end of the month.

The acquisition by Tamedia underlines the intention to grow aggressively internationally, Brecht continued. Doodle wants to gain 200 million users worldwide. Today, the start-up is experiencing strong growth in Brazil, for example, as well as in other Latin and North American regions.

Founded in 2003, the company offers both a free basic service and fee-based services. According to Brecht, the latter are "growing". They currently contribute a quarter of the revenue, with the remaining income being generated through the sale of advertising. (SDA)
