The Republic needs money - otherwise it's over on March 31

The online newspaper Republik needs money. If it doesn't raise enough, it will be shut down in the spring.

In the newsletter "with the greatest imposition," which encourages subscribers to renew their subscription as soon as possible, the Republic on what is needed to keep the business afloat economically: "We have two big goals to achieve by the end of March: to be 19,000 publishers again and to raise an additional 2.2 million francs (of which we have already managed 540,000 francs)."

And further: "If we achieve these goals, we have a good chance of being economically stable within a reasonable period of time. If we fail to do so, we will give notice of termination for all Republic employees on the afternoon of March 31. And thereafter dissolve the company in an orderly manner."

The media project also names the reason for the (renewed) financial pressure: "We grew much more slowly than planned this year. Now we have a hole in the cash register. Besides that, we've screwed up a lot since we started."

Subscribers are expected to show some courage: If the funding target is not reached, the money is gone: "If it doesn't work out, you lose your investment, we lose our jobs and Switzerland loses media diversity.

This also makes it clear that the presumption of NZZ on Sunday, the coming year of Republic be secured, was wrong.
