The left-wing Zurich newspaper P.S. is once again looking for money

The left-wing Zurich weekly P.S. has once again launched a full-page appeal for help: The small political and cultural paper is short of 300,000 francs and 300 new subscribers. It is possible that P.S. will not live to see its twentieth birthday in 2019.

The difficulties were already apparent last summer, writes editor-in-chief Min Li Marti in Friday's edition. She had hoped that many advertisements for the municipal council and city council election campaign would come in. But it is now clear that it will not be enough.

Many - especially left-wing - voting and election campaigns today would rather advertise in free newspapers, which are then criticized for their reporting. The middle classes almost prefer to advertise in P.S. than the left, Marti continues.

Not the first call for help

With the appeal for donations, the P.S. is now collecting 300,000 francs and gaining 300 new subscribers. This is not the first time that the small newspaper has resorted to this measure.

In 2012, the P.S. also ask for help. At that time, almost 95,000 francs were raised. An earlier appeal for help in 2004 - entitled "Dörfs es bitzeli meh si?" - raised 50,000 francs within a few weeks.

The newspaper was founded in 1999 and has its roots in the tradition of the left-wing and social democratic press. It is read by sympathizers and members of the SP and the Greens. (SDA)
