German Taz not published on Wednesday due to power failure

According to its own statement, the national German daily newspaper *Taz* did not publish on Wednesday due to a power and server outage.

TazFor the first time in 43 years of its existence, an edition of the newspaper has been cancelled, wrote deputy editor-in-chief Katrin Gottschalk on the website. Both the printed and e-paper editions are affected. The newspaper confirmed the incident when asked on Wednesday.

On Twitter, the newspaper wrote: "At shortly before 11 p.m. on 04.19.22, our servers responded again." Gottschalk described the incident as follows: "The reason for the disruption was initially a power failure that paralyzed our servers." Through external service providers, he said, the company was able to avoid major damage to the infrastructure. "Unfortunately, it was not entirely damage-free." By the time of going to press, the company had not been able to access its own data. The website was also temporarily unavailable on Tuesday.

The newspaper is based in Berlin and is published nationally. According to figures from the Informationsgemeinschaft zur Feststellung der Verbreitung von Werbeträgern (IVW), its paid circulation (Monday to Saturday) in the fourth quarter of 2021 was 49,861 copies. (SDA)
